Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris is the tenth book in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Mysteries Series also known as the books behind the HBO series True Blood.
The book examines the aftermath of the Faery War, in which Sookie lost her fairy godmother Claudine and her great-grandfather sealed the portal off to the fairy world, leaving Dermott, a half fairy who killed her parents roaming around after her. Now someone is trying to get revenge on Sookie, but with many enemies, we are never sure who it is.
The one successful aspect of Sookie’s life is the love she shares with Eric, who is ravaged which guilt for not coming to Sookie's aid sooner. However, their happiness is interrupted when a couple of unwanted visitors make their way into Sookie’s life, Appius Livius Ocella, Eric's maker, who brings along a murdered prince, who seems to love murdering others.
Bill too is suffering after having helped to save Sookie and it seems that only one vampire, his maker Loren, who has the ability to heal her children, can save him. The problem is that Sookie killed her so she must find someone else to save Bill.
As well as facing the changing world after the revelation of shape shifters and weres in which she once again gets involved with the weres.
The book, like Sookie’s life never gets boring and it takes you deep into the world of Sookie Stackhouse. Niall, her great-grandfather had said there is a vampire that loves you and Sookie chose Eric, but is he the vampire that will do anything for her or is it her neighbour.
