The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella Book Review

Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella by Stephenie Meyer

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner explores the new life of newborn vampire Bree Tanner. The story picks up when Bree is three months old and has been created by Riley for the purpose of building Victoria's army to destroy Bella, though she is not aware of this. Victoria targets Bella in order to make Edward feel what was felt when he killed her mate, James.

Bree is just another member of the army and only became a vampire because she was a runaway who has hungry. Riley acts on behalf of Victoria to build the newborn army, however, newborns are hard to discipline especially when they are thirsty and so their numbers keep dwindling. The book gives a greater perspective into what Bree feels and thinks. She often describes the thirst that she feels and how her throat burns. She is a far more rational vampire and follows her leader. Diego, a slightly older newborn befriends Bree and too is loyal to his leader, a loyalty and trust that does not end so well.

The story allows us to see what it would be like for a newborn vampire and we learn more about Riley and Victoria and that he is willing to do anything for her because he thinks she loves him, however she is just using him. We too find out how much the Volturi knew and why they did not stop the newborn army.

As we previously learn in Eclipse, Bree surrenders, she does not want to fight and we learn the reasons why in this book.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is an interesting perspective what a newborn's life is like and the situation that Bree is in that we would not have been aware of by just reading Eclipse. A must read for all Twilight fans.
